Bio: Faïcel Chamroukhi is a Full Professor of Statistics and Data Science at the University of Caen, Lab. of Mathematics Nicolas Oresme (LMNO), UMR CNRS 6139, and the department of Mathematics and Computer Science, since sept. 2016. In Sept. 2022, he obtained a secondment to join the technological research institute IRT SystemX, the Research and Technology Organisation (RTO, Non-Profit Organization) of Paris-Saclay where he is the scientific head of Data Science and Aritificial Intelligence. He has been Visiting Professor (from jun. to sep. 2019) at the University of Queensland, Department of Mathematics, working with Geoff McLachlan and Adjunct Visiting Professor (from sep. 20 to jan. 21) at La Trobe University, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, working with Hien D. Nguyen. From 2011 to 2015, he has been an Assistant and then an Associate Professor of Computer Science & Machine Learning at the University of Toulon, department of Computer Science, and the Information Sciences and Systems Lab (LSIS), UMR CNRS 7296. From 2007 to 2011, he has been a Lecturer and then an Assistant Professor (ATER) at Paris 13 University, Department of Computer Science & Machine Learning team of LIPN UMR CNRS. In 2015-2016, he was awarded a CNRS leave for research, at the Lab of Mathematics Paul Painlevé, UMR CNRS 8524, and he has been also a Visiting Scientist at INRIA Modal, in Lille and in 2019-2020 he was awarded a national CRCT (CNU) semester leave for research. He obtained his Accreditation to Supervise Research/Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches, in computer science and applied mathematics in December 2015 from Toulon University, his Ph.D. in the same area in December 2010, from Compiègne University of Technology, and Heudiasyc UMR CNRS 7253 and IFSTTAR labs, and Master degree in Information Processing and Engineering, in June 2007 from PARIS 6 (Pierre and Marie Curie) University. His primary research interests include statistical inference and machine learning, latent variable models and unsupervised learning in high-dimensional and large-scale scenarios.
